A brief details about India Air Force
The Indian Air Force is the Air Based Warfare branch of the Indian Armed Forces. Indian Air Force holds the fourth position in the world in the context of personnel and aircraft assets. Its primary task is to protect Indian Airspace during the armed battle. It was officially established on 8 October 1932 as an auxiliary air force of the British Empire which honored India's aviation service during World War II with the prefix Royal. The name Royal Indian Air Force was kept and served in the name of Union of India which was an independent dominion in the British Commonwealth of Nations between 15th Aug 1947 and 25 January 1950. After independence with the government's transition to a Republic in 1950, the prefix Royal was removed and it named as Indian Air Force (IAF).
IAF wars involvement
Since 1950 the IAF has been involved in four wars with neighboring Pakistan and one with the People's Republic of China. Other major operations undertaken by the IAF include Operation Vijay, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Cactus, and Operation Poomalai. The IAF's mission expands beyond engagement with hostile forces, with the IAF participating in United Nations peacekeeping missions.
About CASB
CASB stands for Central Airmen Selection Board, is an organization that conducts the process of the selection of the Airmen in the Indian Air force. This is a part of the Indian Air Force which conducts Rallies and Scheduled Test for Airmen Recruitment. Rallies are “On the spot selection test” conducted for candidates hailing from remote areas or under-represented areas to maintain demographic balance in IAF.
Formation of CASB
Central Airmen Selection Board was formed at Air Force Station New Delhi (AFND) in May 1980 under the direct control of Air HQs. In 1996, it moved from AFND to Brar Square, Naraina. Central Airmen Selection Board is commanded by an Air Commodore who is designated as President CASB.
Role of CASB
The role of the Central Airmen Selection Board as outlined in the government-approved policy page is to test and enroll Airmen and NCs(E) for the IAF. Its primary tasks are as follows:-
